The planning phase: Your project team
The composition of the project team belongs strategically to the most important decisions which you have to make for your ERP project.
Understand the ERP project team as a separate company on time. This company has a goal: the successful software implementation. This requires a high personal investment from each of the team members. Therefore, your project team members should be released from their normal duties.
Check the motivation of the potential team members: Do they recognize the need for this new enterprise software? Do they think positively about it? Do they have good communication skills? Are they team players?
In particular the project manager has a lot more work to do with the leadership of such an ERP project than you expect at a first glance. And: An IT manager who is a specialist in networking technology is not automatically a good project leader who is able to achieve what you want:

It makes more sense to transfer project responsibility to someone with manager qualities and who combines talents in all fields mentioned.
